Happy Buzzy Bees

It seems as though ‘Alice’ and here colony are settling in well to their new home. Yes, we’ve not only named the hives – Clettwr and Leri, but the queens of each colony have names too. Ffion for the queen in Leri and Alice for the queen in Clettwr.

Alice’s colony is a little behind that of Ffions, as they were only installed from a new nuc on Monday after a slight issue with queens cells in the old nuc. The weather has been terrible since she moved in as well, but today is looking much nicer. Dry, sunny and with a light breeze, the temperature is still currently only 12ÂșC though. however, the bees are flying well and both colonies are out and about. The new colony in Leri seems much much active than the old one was already.

It would be a lovely day for inspecting the hives, but we want to leave Alice to settle in for a little longer before disturbing here. We are planning on doing a varroa count this week, so might but the varroa drop boards in later today for a day or two.
