Beehives are Here

The next step in ‘Plan Bee’ has been completed.

My parents are here this weekend and my Dad brought the beehives that he has been carefully making. They look brilliant. As they are going to go in the garden we wanted them to look nice as well as be easy to use and functional, so we opted for National Standard hives on a stand with a nice gabled roof.

My dad made them from Plywood and each has a mesh floor with sliding varroa screen, brood box, two supers, a crown board and the roof. We also have a few spare bits and pieces such as a bee escape board. They both sit on a custom made stand that keeps them up off the ground and at a comfortable working height. The stand even has its own little storage compartment too.

I painted them a nice shade of green yesterday and will give them another coat soon, but they are now sat in the garden looking good, ready for a whole load of frames and foundation and then in May, some bees – Although, my Dad being his usual self did put some “B’s” and honey in them anyway!
