An Icy Weekend

We’ve just got back from the pre-Christmas Cole family gathering in Bristol. As sual we all got together and did a few things over the weekend. This time it all seemed a little icy.

Ice Hockey

On Saturday my Dad and I took Morgan, Kia and Shaun to the Bristol Ice Rink to watch the Bristol Pit Bulls play Ice Hockey against the Whightlink Tigers. I spent quite a bit of my youth at the ice rink as it was the thing that I did and the place I ‘hung out’. This was of course over 20 years ago now and I had expected things to have chnaged a little bit there. The fact that we had free tickets to the Ice Hockey game and they were promoting it a little made me think that maybve it would be a little updated and a bit of an event, but it was more of a shock than that.

Absolutely nothing had changed. Not one little thing. I don’t even think the interiro has had a lick of paint. The seats were the same, everything in the ice rink was the same and it wasn’t really that much of an event either. Just a couple of teams playing Ice Hockey as they always have done!

Icy Bike Ride

I went for a bike ride with Matt, Dan and Beale. Not really a family thing although that was the original plan. My bike decided to break just before the ride as well so I had to use Matts downhill bike which made the going pretty tough for me. It was nice to get out on a cold, icy morning and explore some of the trails local to my parents house though,

Ice Skating

The real family gathering was on Sunday. Anna, Morgan and myself went to the Mall at around 10.30 to book tickets for us all to go on the open air ice-rink. We then did a bit of shopping. Morgan built a bear at the beuild-a-bear workshop and I had a drool in the Apple Store. We then all went ice-skating for a while before re-convening in Preview. Preview is an ‘eat as much as you can’ restaurant with a varied buffet. Soups, salads, fry ups, pizza, Indian, Chinese and lots of desserts. That’s what I had anyway, in pretty much that order!

Icy Drive

Monday was another icy day with snow on the ground and a long, slow journey through Bristol to the musuem. Once we’d got my car back from Brad’s garage, exchanged Xmas presents and had yet another cup of tea Anna, Morgan and I headed home. It was a bit of a slow journey home thanks to the snow, ice and fog, but we’re back and all is well. Just a few hours until Anna’s Mum arrives for Xmas!
