A Father’s Day Feast

It was Father’s Day on Sunday and as usual I started my day with some training. First a nice bike ride with Owain and Bedwyr. We met at Machynlleth Leisure Centre and headed out in the grey, blustery conditions to Cemaes Road and then on past Bedwyr’s house to the Brigands Inn roundabout where we turned onto the A458 for a bit before heading into the hills up and over the Pandy Road climb. I had my eye on a Strava segment here which covers the whole road from just past the turn off all the way to Llanbrynmair. I’d been segment hunting recently having gained a couple of KOM’s earlier in the week, I thought this one might be achievable too. However, as I started the climb it was clear that this wasn’t going to be the case today as we had quite a headwind which was even worse on the descent. What should have been a fast and furious descent was actually quite difficult into the wind. In the end I missed out on the KOM by just 15 seconds but did get second overall. I did get top place on the climb section though.

After the ride it was time for a swim in the pool and then bacon sandwiches and coffee in the café. I then headed home where I was greeted by Father’s Day presents from Morgan. This included a spicery box, a SUP carrying strap and a cool card / story made from chocolate.

Prety cool hey!

The Spicery Box contained a recipe and all the spices to make a Father’s Day Curry Feast, so I decided to cook it later in the day. This required a quick trip into town to buy some ingredients. We stopped off to get some MAQ strips to treat our bees with as well. Back at home and there was time for a coffee and a chill on the sofa before I deemed it necessary to potter in my shed for a bit – it seemed the right thing to don on Father’s Day. There’s still plenty of sorting out to do in there to get things organised and I had to seal a few areas against the elements as it seems to leak quite a bit, but now that it’s up there’s plenty of time for such things. I have extracted a table from another shed and put that into the new shed, and put up some shelves and a board for hanging tools on and have constructed a few racks for other tools too.

It was then time to cook up a feast which turned out to be delicious. Onion Bhajis and Beer Battered Chilli’s as a starter, complete with tamarind chutney, Spicy Tomato Chutney and a Cucumber Raita. There was also a big bowl of home made ‘Proper Bombay Mix’. The main course was a nice flavoursome Beef Curry based on a Bhuna, served with Spiced Rice, Naan Bread and more of the various dips. We then had Lemon and Poppy Seed Cake for pudding and of course some chocolate with coffee a little later on.

Not a bad way to spend Father’s Day.
