Graduation Ceremony

Day two in Liverpool and I was up at 3am writing blog posts and milling about suffering with some sort of lurgy. I had a busy day to look forward to though and lots of eating, starting with a huge breakfast in Jury’s hotel. Buffet style which is always my favourite, although I do see them as a challenge to try to eat at least one portion of everything on offer:

  • Fresh orange juice
  • Granola topped with walnuts, pumpkin seeds and loads of yoghurt
  • Fried bacon, sausages, black pudding, tomatoes, mushrooms, hash browns and baked beans
  • Croissants, Pain au Chocolate and a scone with jam
  • 3 mugs of coffee
  • Porridge with chocolate sprinkles
  • Waffle with Nutella,
  • Another pain au chocolate
  • Another glass of orange juice

Suitably nourished it was then time to head to the station in a taxi to leave our bags at left luggage and then walk to the University for Pat to don her gown and mortar board hat. Morgan had to try it on too of course, and Anna!

We then walked to the Philarmonic Hall for the ceremonies. The Art Deco building was perfect for it and as this was mainly a ceremony for post-grads there weren’t too many people to get through. Pat was worried about her hat falling off, but it didn’t and all went well. I managed to get a fews photos of the proceedings for her too.

We then popped into the Philarmonic Pub for a coffee before heading to the Victoria Museum to meet Harold, Pat’s supervisor, for a celebratory lunch. Complete with crackers and Prosecco.

There was a Christmas menu on offer so we all went for that, although I had the pork rather than the turkey, all served with loads of vegetables and gravy. Morgan didn’t really eat any of his as he was feeling poorly so I ate most of it for him as well, meaning I did end up with the turkey as well as the pork. I then had sticky toffee pudding and ate Morgan’s ice cream too.

We didn’t have a huge amount of time left by now so we wandered around the Victoria Museum looking at the exhibits and doing a little trail with Morgan before heading back to Lime Street Station to wait for the train and buy some snacks for the journey home. The journey back was uneventful and we were back in Borth on time just after 9pm after an exhausting 24 hours in Liverpool. We had Pat with us as she will be staying for a few days, Morgan and I had taken our lurgy with us and unfortunately brought it back too, and I had gained 6kg in less than 36 hours!
