A Bed for Beans
Things are growing well in the garden. It’s been pretty cold so far this month, but the April showers have been working wonders and things are growing well. The cherry tree is just about coming into blossom, we’ve been feeding well on the purple sprouting brocolli, the chives are about to flower and elsewhere everything is looking vibrant and full of beans.
Talking of beans, Morgan and I have created a new vegetable border along a south facing fence that will soon be home to the ‘exotic’ bean selection that we have sown. These have germinated in the conservatory and are currently being hardened off each day along with various other seedlings and cuttings. The bed where they will live for the summer is now pretty much ready for them. The canes are in place and I’ll add some bean netting to it soon. Then hopefully the beans can go out in a week or two and they will soon be providing us with more beans that we can eat. As always it will be a bit hit and miss as to how well they do as they will have to contend with the wind.
I’ve been working out in the garden a fair bit lately, but it has been cold out there so I’ve been wearing a hat. I also like to listen to podcasts while I’m gardening but my earphones are broken so the other day I did my gardening with some old headphones on. Anna thought that this was highly amusing and that I looked pretty ‘special’ whilst out there so took some photos of me in full gardening action! I wouldn’t normally share such things but it’ll make Anna’s day to see the photos online and then in our weblog book, so here they are. I think I look mighty fine myself.
