Borth Sea Defences – Feb 26th

The weather has been good for work on the Borth Sea Defence Scheme. We have had a couple of really high tides over the last week or so but fortunately the weather was calm so it didn’t cause too many problems. The contractors did place some large rocks around the area that they park the big machinery though just in case.

We took a walk along the beach on Saturday afternoon to see how things are progressing. The northern most rock groyne is now a little larger than it was and they’ve started work on a few more piles of rocks too. They’ve also built a little road along the top of the beach by the sea wall for access.

It’s quite good fun watching the cranes lifting huge rocks onto the trucks. The grappling arms that they use have a lifelike quality to them sometimes like giant reptilian beaks picking up boulders and loading them into the waiting dumper trucks.

Here are some of the photos from Saturday.
