Jamie’s Ministry of Food Review

Some people love him and some people can’t stand him but I have to admit that I am a big fan of Jamie Oliver. I love the way he cooks, not worrying too much about about weighing everything out and substituting some ingredients if you fancy.

We watched his new series where he was promoting home cooking and trying to get people to cook and eat together etc. Whilst I enjoyed it I didn’t really think the book that always comes along just in time for Christmas as with all of these programmes would be much use for us. I probably have most of his other books but thought this would be too basic for people who already do some cooking.

Anyway, as usual Alan ignored me and bought it for me for Christmas! It’s a really nice book, some lovely recipes and ideas for nice straight forward dishes, but not too boring and basic.

We were stuck for an idea for tea and had decided upon Chilli only to discover half way through chopping onions etc that we didn’t have our packet of chilli mix in the cupboard and didn’t know what to do next.

A quick look in Jamie’s new book and we were sorted. A quick and easy Chilli recipe without too many complicated ingredients. We didn’t have everything (but it didn’t seem to matter that we didn’t add Chick peas!) and the result was as good if not better than the packet we’d normally use. We probably added more vegetables than we would normally so it was healthier without any additives etc from the packet.

We even tested it on Dave who seemed to enjoy it. We definitely won’t be buying the packet mix any more and I’ve had a look for some more tasty ideas for stuff we cook all the time using jars etc and after a trip to get a few key ingredients I think we’ll be trying one of his curries next.

Well Done Jamie
