Isle of Man Coast Path – Ballaugh to Blue Point

I think this will probably be the shortest Coast Path entry ever. I’ve been suffering with a sore hip (or something around that area) whenever I try running, so I didn’t have a huge distance planned. However, whilst on the Isle of Man, it would have been a shame not to continue with the Coast Path, even if only for a few miles.

It was also a lovely day, with clear blue skies, light winds and nobody around when Anna and Pat dropped me off in the car park at Ballaugh.

Last time, I’d run along the coast to here and then headed inland to Ballaugh itself to find them in the car. At least this time I only needed to follow the coast. I headed out onto the shingly sands and started north, trotting along and trying to find the flatter, harder-packed areas of sand, splashing through the puddles left by the retreating tide. I had the beach to myself as I plodded along. My hip was a little sore, but not too bad once I got moving.

And that’s pretty much all there is to say, really. I ran for just over five miles to a little car park by a clay pigeon shooting range. Anna had parked in a different car park a little further back, but after a phone call she came to meet me, and I’d ticked off a section of the Coast Path I hadn’t done before.

It wasn’t far, it wasn’t particularly exciting, and the scenery barely changed along the way: just the beach, the sand, the shingle, the low cliffs or dunes, and the sea, with a view towards Scotland in the distance.

Hopefully, next time I’ll be able to run further and suffer less pain afterwards. Yep, I couldn’t walk properly by the afternoon!
