The End of Summer?

It looks as though summer may be coming to an abrupt end tomorrow. The remnants of Hurricane Erin are forecast to reach our shores, bringing strong winds, rain, and some large surf. We can’t really complain though—it’s been a lovely, long, hot summer. There have been plenty of sunny days, dinners on the patio, sunsets galore, bandstand concerts for Anna, and of course lots of time in the water. It was all topped off with an end-of-summer fireworks display from Sea Rivers last night.

The sea has been the warmest I’ve ever known it. I haven’t had to wear neoprene for weeks. I’ve been windsurfing, surfing, paddle-boarding, or swimming pretty much every day and never once needed a wetsuit. And I don’t just mean quick dips—I’ve had full windsurfing sessions lasting hours, long swims, and never felt even slightly chilly.

A friend from the Cotswolds has been visting for the past week or so, staying in a rental cottage just around the corner, so I’ve had someone to windsurf with which has been fun. And I’ve been in the sea with Morgan a few times as well.

It can’t last forever, of course. With the shift toward more autumnal conditions, I’ll probably have to dust off my summer suit soon, and before long we’ll be deep in winter, back to the full 4/3 wetsuit with boots, hood, and gloves. The impending storm might at least bring a good swell and some decent wind!

Hope you’ve all had a good summer too.

I agree it’s been brilliant, we’ve been out most days including yesterday when we went to cotswolds water park we were in the beach lake so not deep, and Athena stayed in there for well over an hour with her “best friend ” that she met ! She had lunch and was back in there . Ryder jump from a 25 foot inflable into the other lake., obviously deeper hopefully we will have some more nice weather once thestorm passes, but we certainly can’t complain.
I’m sure you will make the most of the wind anyway
