Honey Harvest 2025
It’s been our best year yet for honey production. We haven’t finished harvesting, but from three hives we should end up with around 80 lbs of honey—mostly from two hives, as the third wasn’t really a production hive this season. The weather has clearly been kind to bees, judging by the sheer amount of fruit on the trees and hedgerows as well.
We don’t aim to maximise production. Instead of taking everything and then feeding them sugar syrup to get them through the winter, we always leave them a full super of their own honey. It just feels like the right thing to do—and surely healthier for the bees too. We’re also fairly hands-off during the season: we check in on them, of course, but mostly let them get on with it. That said, we’ve had a few people asking us to install hives at their houses, so we may have to look at increasing our colonies next year. If our bees make it through the winter, an early split could well be on the cards.
This is actually the third good year in a row, so whether it’s down to us, the bees, or the weather, something seems to be working. Of course, the longer the good years continue, the more we start to expect a tricky one sooner or later.
As usual, we have jars of our Ynyslas Gold available—just let us know if you’d like some, as it never hangs around for long.
