Look What We’ve Built! A Pergola, Gazebo, Pergoda… Whatever It Is, It’s Cool and Shady

We’ve got a new addition to the house – though I’m still not entirely sure what to call it. Is it a pergola? A gazebo? A pergoda? Maybe just a fancy lean-to or a patio-shade? Whatever it is, one thing’s for sure it’s new and it looks kinda cool!

The main idea behind it was simple – we needed some shade, and had done for years. Our house faces west, and when those summer rays hit, our living room with its big, inviting French doors turns into a bit of an oven. We’ve tried opening the doors, but the wind always seems to have other plans, sweeping through like it owns the place. We’ve tried curtains and that’s just worse. So, some much-needed shade was definitely in order.

And now, we’re hoping this beauty does the trick. Not only will it keep things cooler inside, but it’s also added a nice little feature to the front of the house. I’m already imagining us sitting underneath it on warm summer evenings, enjoying the view, maybe with a drink in hand. It’s not just practical; it’s shaping up to be a great spot to hang out too.

Of course, now that it’s up, I’m already thinking of ways to make it even better. Some atmospheric lighting, proper comfy seating – maybe even a firepit for those cooler nights? It could really turn this into an outdoor retreat of sorts. Stay tuned for updates – this might just become our new favourite spot! Although, Anna thinks it’s fine just as it is as long as it adds some shade once we have a summer.
