Another Evacuation in Aberystwyth

No, we aren’t being evacuated again, not yet anyway, but the students are being evacuated from the seafront halls.

All lectures and seminars have been cancelled in the university for Friday and Monday and students have been told to leave seafront halls by 4pm on Friday in preparation for the battering we’re likely to get from the weather.

The university is making provisions to put some of the students up on campus, whilst others are recommended to go to friends or go home. The university has offered to pay travel expenses to those students who have been evacuated, and will provide food to those put up on campus.

The clear up and repairs of the seafront in Aberystwyth aren’t complete following the storm a few weeks ago so no one knows how it will fare this time. But with such high tides and the forecasted wind and waves it’s likely to take quite a beating once again. Hence the evacuation of the residences along the seafront.

The university has asked students in the affected area to inform them of their intentions and arrangements for alternative accommodation and has an emergency phone number for urgent assistance. The 24 hr emergency number is 01970 622900.

Batten down the hatches!!
