Red Kite Challenge Marshalling
Whilst Borth was basking in sunshine today we were up in the hills around Nant yr Arian marshalling for the Red Kite Challenge. It’s actually a job for the Scouts but with Anna and I as Scout leaders that means we have to be there as well.
We had a good turn out from the Scouts today who all braved the rain and mist waiting in the cold for hours for the first runners to appear. We were split into two groups and I had the car so at least I had some shelter. Unfortunately for Anna her group didn’t have the car but they did manage to find some shelter for a while in a large black pipe!
My group managed to entertain themselves whilst waiting for the runners with a dead sheep and some charcoal face-painting.

I kept them fed and watered with hot dogs, Mars bars, chocolate biscuits and hot chocolates – to supplement the much healthier packed lunches they had brought along. Then we all sprung into action manning the water station, handing out cups of water to the runners, offering them jelly babies, jelly beans and raisins and directing them along the trail.
All went well and the sun even came out as we were packing up!
Anna has to do it all over again tomorrow, but I’ve managed to get out of it as I have training to do ready for a race next weekend.
