Down with the Lurgy

I’ve been pretty healthy for the past year or so. There was a time when I seemed to get every cold and lurgy that was going, but over the past year I’ve been pretty much illness free. I’m not sure what to attribute this to but I have made a few changes and I’m sure one or two of these must have helped.

  1. I’ve been generally fitter and healthier thanks to my increased triathlon training routine.
  2. I’ve been eating a little healthier.
  3. I’ve been taking a few supplements to boost my imune system, in particular echinacea and zinc supplements.
  4. I’ve been a little ‘OCD’ with washing my hands when in public places.

I can’t say that any one of these things has actually made a difference but maybe in combination they have. I’ve also been in the sea less, not that I think that has anything to do with it. That is until this week when I’ve come down with a sore throat, a cough and a tight, sore chest. I don’t actually feel too bad in myself, but I have a headache and a cold and therefore can’t do any training.

Now, I’m sure it’s just a coincidence but this bout of ‘lurgy’ coincides with the Christmas break and a lapse in my training and a decline in the quality of my diet.

Oh well, I suppose it’s better to be ill now when I’m not supposed to be training too much than in a month or so when I should be ramping things up. For now, it’s back to the sofa for me and some more sweets, chocolate and biscuits! We’ve still gots tonnes of Christmas goodies to finish off so I think I’ll make a concerted effort to polish them off before the New Year and start afresh then.

Get well soon! And enjoy the biscuit eating while it lasts.
