A Meteoric Run

I had a nice run with the Tri Club last night. The run itself was fairly uneventful, just an undulating 10km run with Pete, Graham and Karen. It  was a cool, clear night with plenty of light from the Moon and good views of Jupiter not far from the Moon.

On the way back we took a bit of a detour along the back roads of Talybont and as we were running North were treated to an amazing view of a meteorite. It flew over head in line with us and was visible for a quite a while. Graham and Karen said it was glowing green and pink, but I could only really see a white light but there was debris flying off of it all over the place as it left a trail across the night sky.

It looked as though it was quite low and would have landed somewhere nearby, but there was no sound associated with it and probably in truth it was much higher than it looked and probably came to Earth hundreds of miles away – It was certainly travelling fast enough though and looked pretty big. It certainly wasn’t like the shooting star type meteorites that you usually see. It impressed us anyway and we talked about it all the way back to the cars.

Well worth going out on a cold, dark winters night just for that.
