Emperor Moth

A new species for the garden list last night and an impressive one at that so I thought it deserved a post of its own! I popped out to check the trap last night and was about to catch a tiny little Pug that was on the sheet beneath the trap when ‘Thwuuuump‘ something big flew into the side of the trap. I quickly decided to catch that instead and I’m glad I did.

Check this little beauty out. Its an Emperor Moth (Saturnia pavonia), its pretty common but still quite impressive and a first for me since I started trapping at the end of last year and the biggest moth we’ve had as well.
