Dymag Wheels

Check out my new wheels from Dymag Performance Cycle Wheels. Nice hey!  Can’t wait to give them a good thrashing at the  European Champs in Kitzbuhel.

Dymag Wheels

I’ve got a 50m deep section carbon rim up front, 60mm deep section carbon rim on the rear, laced to DT Swiss 240 hubs with Sapim Aero Bladed CX-Ray spokes. I tested the weight of them yesterday and they came in at just over 1.5kg for the pair, just about 100g lighter than my non-aero Mavic Ksyriums Elites. So that’s a good start, a little lighter, hopefully a lot more aero and probably stiffer too. Coupled with better hubs then they have to be good. Talking of the hubs, the rear one makes a nice sound which is always a bonus. Not that I intend to do too much free-wheeling of course!

Dymag are a British company based in Chippenham. They’ve been producing wheels for various motor racing disciplines from F1 to Superbikes since the 1970’s and have a good reputation for carbon wheels.

They’ve now brought this expertise to a range of road cycling wheels. Dymag developed their own rim profile, a fairly standard, tried and tested v-section shape with a rounded leading edge. These rims are manufactured in China but the Dymag team regularly visit and qualify all the factories that supply them to oversee the choice of materials, manufacturing and quality control processes, and of course they combine the rims with top quality hubs and spokes for a good all round package.

They offer a choice of rim depths (24mm, 38mm, 44m, 50mm, 60mm and 88m)  with rim profiles for both clinchers and tubs. I’ve got the slightly heavier clincher versions so that I can use my existing tyres with them without having to fork out more for tubs as well. They came with a set of Reynolds Cryo Blue brake pads and  a really nice padded wheel bag. I do have to get some valve extenders though so that my tubes will fit them – they are on order at the moment so as soon as they arrive I’ll be able to give the wheels a proper test.

Prices start at around £990 for the shallower rims with Hope hubs and double butted spokes and range up to £1560 for the 88mm rims with DT Swiss hubs and Sapim Aero spokes.

They are certainly looking nice on my bike, and the red and black hubs go well with it too. I just can’t wait to give them a good test in the hills of Wales before heading out to Kitzbuhel for the Europeans Triathlon Champs in a couple of weeks.
