The summer is drawing to an end, and I’m looking forward to a bit of a rest from hard core structured triathlon training too. The last couple of sessions have felt fairly autumnal and there is definitely a change in the air. I was out swimming in Aberystwyth yesterday evening in what turned out to be glorious conditions. It...

Fartlek is always a funny word for us and when included with the word ‘windy’ I guess it’s a little funnier, but a fartlek session what I had planned for yesterdays main training session so that’s what I did.

In an attempt to improve my triathlon performances I’ve been working with a coach and I’ve been trying to follow a periodised training plan this year. Periodisation There are plenty of quite large books that go into great depths about periodisation in triathlon training (one of the best being Joe Friels “The Triathlete’s Training Bible“....

Last week it was pounding up and down the cliff path doing running hill reps. This week it was more hill reps, but on my bike. The prescribed session was...

My highly specialised run training seems to be paying off as I seem to be getting faster and stronger. So, what’s the secret? Well, I do very little running at all and each time I go out I seem to improve. My latest run was an interval session, building on the last time I did...

I’ve written here several times about the importance of staying motivated as far as training or keeping fit goes. I’ve also posted plenty of tips to help with that such as: Buying new gadgets. Training with others. Making a habit of it. and many more. I tend to do these myself, maybe not consciously, but...
