Alan Cole — Tue, 03 Jan 2017 13:58:28 +0000

The final overall standing in the Welsh Cyclo-cross 2016 league have been published recently. It’s therefore time for a little round-up of my first ever season racing Cyclo-cross. Why Cyclo-cross? Before I get into the results and how I fared against my competitors, a quick recap on why I chose to do Cyclo-cross in 2016....

Christmas Cross – Welsh Cyclo-cross League Final

Alan Cole — Wed, 21 Dec 2016 07:12:33 +0000

After a Christmas gathering in Bristol, we packed up on Sunday morning and headed off in the mist and murk across the bridge to Wales. Our destination was Caerphilly Mountain for the final round of the Welsh Cyclo-cross league. I had my usual excuses – my knees were sore, I hadn’t been training and I’d eaten...

Cross by the Sea – Welsh Cyclo-cross League Round 10

Alan Cole — Wed, 30 Nov 2016 10:12:37 +0000

I missed round 9 of the Welsh Cyclo-cross league last weekend as we were away in Devon. From what I saw though it was an extremely cold, very muddy and showy affair – just what I was expecting from Cyclo-cross really. By contrast round 10 in Pembrey, Cross by the Sea, was clear and sunny...

Llanerchaeron Cross – Welsh Cyclo-cross League Round 8

Alan Cole — Mon, 14 Nov 2016 13:51:38 +0000

Round 8 of the Welsh Cyclo-cross league was at Llanerchaeron, just outside Aberaeron. Although still a 50 minute drive from here it was my local event of the series which meant a fairly lazy start to the day. I was still up early though. Early enough to see the sunrise and to get lots of...

Melin Mynach Cross, Gorseinon – Welsh Cyclo-cross League Round 7

Alan Cole — Mon, 07 Nov 2016 10:47:54 +0000

After a weeks hiatus from Cyclo-cross last week for the Cross Mountain event it was back to it for round 7 of the Welsh Cyclo-cross league. This weekend it was quite a drive away in Gorseinon on the outskirts of Swansea. I didn’t have to leave early though as my race doesn’t start until 12:15pm so I...

Showground Cross Carmarthen – Welsh Cyclo-cross League Round 4

Alan Cole — Mon, 10 Oct 2016 14:02:12 +0000

Another weekend, another Welsh Cyclo-cross League race and yet more sunshine. In fact it was a glorious day with wall to wall sunshine, bright blue skies and barely any wind. The dry conditions meant that – uncharacteristically for the showground in Carmarthen – there was very little mud. In fact, the organisers had made a few last...

Pembrey Dune Cross – Welsh Cyclo-cross League Round 3

Alan Cole — Tue, 04 Oct 2016 07:29:51 +0000

Despite a 6 hour mountain bike ride in the Tide to Tide on Saturday I was due to race in the Pembrey Dune Cross on Sunday. This was round 3 of the Welsh Cyclo-cross league. I was awake fairly early so left Anna sleeping in the tent and headed off into Pembrey Country Park for a walk as...

Alan Cole — Mon, 26 Sep 2016 08:25:42 +0000

Round 2 of the Welsh Cyclo-cross League and this week it was a 2 hour drive to Foxley Cross near Hereford. As is usual for me I arrived with plenty of time to spare, signed on, attached my number to my cycling top and headed off for a few practice laps of the course. Having...

Llanishen Calfburner – Welsh Cyclo-cross League Round 1

Alan Cole — Mon, 19 Sep 2016 15:02:02 +0000

I entered my first ever Cyclo-cross race at the weekend: Round 1 of the Welsh Cyclo-cross league at Llanishen High School in Cardiff. A new Challenge I’d never done any Cylco-cross before, I’d never even seen a Cyclo-cross race and therefore had no idea what to expect. I had watched a few videos of Cyclo-cross...
