I was going to use it in conjunction with my turbo trainer there, but my phone works just as ell for that and is actually a little easier to set up each time.

Yep, I fully agree. They aren’t ‘cheap’ to buy in the first place but if they give many years of service then overall they work out to be a pretty good investment year on year.

My 2013 iMac is still going strong and has been re-purposed elsewhere in the house as well so hopefully it’ll keep going for a few more years yet.
