Hi Alan, sorry, I have only just seen your reply! Thanks for the info. I have been looking into it and it seems that you can possibly access the river at Derwenlas down a public footpath that runs downs from the main road. I would like to go from the Dyfi bridge at Machynlleth though if possible, I will probably try it during the winter, viz, outside the fishing season. There is a public footpath that runs alongside the river from the Dyfed bridge for quite a way so I would think there I could launch from down there somewhere. I use inflatable kayaks which pack into a large backpack which makes it more flexible when it comes to landing/launching locations.

Hi Gareth,
Yes, Derwenlas is about the tidal range of the Dyfi. It’s actually a little further than that but not far off. Access is difficult though as there are only a few places to cross the railway line and the landowners aren’t usually too happy about it - hence the reason I always go from Ynyslas and back. I’m not sure if it any easier from the other side.

It’s a lovely trip though. Maybe see you there one day.

Looks like an interesting route. I am planning on doing the Dovey in the next few months. Is Derwenlas about the tidal range of the Dovey? I would like to put in at the bridge just West of Machynlleth and come downstream to Aberdovey but think the first few miles would be on the non tidal section?
