Yep, Shem tried to convince me to go for Conti Veticals too… They are cheaper than the others as well… Think I’ll stick with my Mountain Kings for now though as they are on the bike and ready to go.

Might try some Verticals next though.

not much drag and loads of grip

I had a rummage in the shed and now have 2.2″ Mountain Kings front and rear so will see how that feels. They are a little old so I’m not sure how well they’ll withstand the sharp rocks of the Dyfi as they look as though they’ve had a bit of run in with them already!

I took them off the hardtail which now looks pretty fast with a Maxxis Larsen TT on the front and a Specialized Fasttrack on the rear.

If doing a longer distance I go for something light and fast rolling on the rear. Then something with a bit of control on the front.
Last merida I ran a raceking the rear with a nevgal on the front needed lots of respect on the grassy downhills to avoid losing the back under braking.

There was some good reviews on tyres in the April addition of MBUK. Top rated were Continental Rubber Queen Black Chili. Bit expensive though. I ride Nobby Nic which are very good although very grippy and drag over long distances.

Don’t get Continental Speed King 2.1s, they are light and fast, but rubbish on wet trails
