{"id":7553,"date":"2011-04-12T10:22:43","date_gmt":"2011-04-12T09:22:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.alananna.co.uk\/blog\/?p=7553"},"modified":"2011-04-11T10:46:31","modified_gmt":"2011-04-11T09:46:31","slug":"our-own-little-patch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.alananna.co.uk\/blog\/2011\/04\/our-own-little-patch\/","title":{"rendered":"Our own little patch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve almost finished the new fence I erected at the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s\u00a0always\u00a0difficult\u00a0to envisage how these things will feel once they are done, but it&#8217;s actually really nice. We knew what it would look like, but the feeling it creates is more difficult to predict. We were a little worried that it would make the garden feel smaller and a little hemmed in and that we&#8217;d miss the nice open feel that we had got used to by &#8216;sharing&#8217; gardens with our neighbours. We didn&#8217;t really share but without a proper boundary we couldn&#8217;t help but share the view into each others garden if nothing else.<\/p>\n<p>The new fence does actually make it feel nice though. It isn&#8217;t too imposing but it does create a bit more seclusion and delineates our own little patch of land. The extra height in the garden probably even create an extra dimension in its own right as well.<\/p>\n<p>Our side of the fence is south facing so hopefully it will\u00a0provide\u00a0a nice backdrop for some new plants that like the sun and of course provide some additional shelter from the <a title=\"Coastal Gardening - Wind\" href=\"https:\/\/www.alananna.co.uk\/blog\/2008\/coastal-gardening-wind\/\">incessant wind<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<div id=\"attachment_7555\" style=\"width: 410px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a title=\"New Fence and Seating Area\" rel=\"lightbox\" href=\"https:\/\/www.alananna.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/new_fence.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7555\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-7555 \" title=\"new_fence\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alananna.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/new_fence-400x300.jpg\" alt=\"New Fence and Seating Area\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.alananna.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/new_fence-400x300.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.alananna.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/new_fence-120x90.jpg 120w, https:\/\/www.alananna.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/new_fence.jpg 750w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-7555\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">New Fence and Seating Area<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I did of course get time to sit and enjoy the garden after all my hard work. The little area around the water feature is looking nice at the moment and has become a bit of a bog garden. The fresh green leaves of the Iris not only hide the compost bins but also highlight the bright yellow of the Marsh Marigold which in turn frames the water feature nicely.
