Day 2<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It was still windy in the morning, so we had a relaxed breakfast, packed up camp and were ready to start paddling by around 9am. Rather than head south-west across more open water towards Harstena, we adjusted our plans and decided to head slowly north, taking shelter where we could from the wind in the lee of the many islands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were seabirds everywhere: gulls, cormorants, ducks and divers. Every now and then a huge eagle could be seen soaring low over the trees. The water was clear and rocks and patches of weed were easily spotted. The sun was shining and visibility made navigation relatively easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although, from the vantage point of a kayak, all of the islands do look pretty much the same, so some checking on Google Maps to confirm our exact position was needed from time to time. Not that it really mattered where exactly we were, as there was no real agenda. We just paddled gently along, taking it all in, pausing in the shelter of the islands and watching the world go by.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We stopped for lunch. Our lunch fare was tortilla wraps with Babybel cheese and some salami sticks, along with apples. Not exactly gourmet food, but it was easy to transport and kept us going.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over lunch we made a plan to head generally north-east, between a collection of islands that formed a nature reserve, one of many in the archipelago. We would explore the sheltered bays and then look for a campsite just north of there. This would take us closer to Asp\u00f6ja, where we aimed to be the following night, than we needed to be, but would give us a chance to explore elsewhere tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
