West Wales isn\u2019t a bad place to spend a long weekend at home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both Anna and I were off on Friday, so after an early-ish run around the dunes for me, we headed into town for brunch. We decided to try somewhere new and ended up at Kwizinn, which serves Caribbean-inspired food. It was excellent too \u2014 even if we were the only people in there when we arrived. I always find that slightly awkward at first, but the food more than justified the decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After that we spent a few hours doing all the little jobs around town that somehow never quite get done. A bit of shopping, a few errands, and finally \u2014 after putting it off for far too long \u2014 I even had my haircut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Back home, I spent some time inspecting the bees and carrying out a few hive manipulations. The colony that I split earlier in the year is doing well, and the split itself has successfully re-queened, which is always reassuring to see. The original hive was booming again though, so I decided to split that colony for a second time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After losing three of our four colonies over winter, this year is less about honey production and more about rebuilding numbers by making increase. Whether that plan works remains to be seen, but at least things are heading in the right direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rest of the afternoon disappeared in a fairly typical fashion \u2014 pootling around in the garden, doing odd little jobs here and there without any great urgency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saturday began with me climbing onto the lean-to roof to clean it off, clear the gutters, and sort out the drainpipes. Once I started, that naturally led to a few other garden jobs as well. Meanwhile, Anna spent much of the day baking ahead of an evening out with friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fortunately for me, that also meant leftover cakes at home, and a new bottle of gin – that I didn’t touch as I had to be on duty to give Anna lift home later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I felt reasonably justified in eating them too. Recent days had been fairly active: windsurfing on Thursday evening, running on Friday, and then weights plus a turbo trainer session on Saturday. Fuel was clearly required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Admittedly, I may have slightly overestimated exactly how much fuel was necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sunday somehow ended up just as busy. Another early morning run was followed by a really nice windsurf session before I turned my attention back to the garden once again \u2014 trimming bonsai trees, weeding, tidying up, and generally trying to stay on top of things before everything grows completely out of control.<\/p>\n\n\n

Somewhere amongst all of that, we also started planning another trip away. Nothing is confirmed yet, but there\u2019s a reasonable chance we might soon be heading off on a small sea-kayaking expedition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not a bad way to spend a weekend at all, and although not that dramatic, it somehow sums up our ‘Simple Life of Luxury’.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
