{"id":48229,"date":"2026-04-25T14:04:57","date_gmt":"2026-04-25T13:04:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.alananna.co.uk\/blog\/?p=48229"},"modified":"2026-04-25T14:44:33","modified_gmt":"2026-04-25T13:44:33","slug":"isle-of-man-trip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.alananna.co.uk\/blog\/2026\/04\/isle-of-man-trip\/","title":{"rendered":"Isle of Man Trip"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We made another quick trip over to the&nbsp;Isle of Man&nbsp;this weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I say \u201cquick,\u201d but I think we actually had an extra day compared to usual \u2014 which made a difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This time we took the boat. In some ways it\u2019s better: we have our own car, can take more with us, and everything feels a bit more flexible. The trade-off, of course, is the weather. That said, our last few flights have been delayed by wind, fog, or air traffic control, so we wondered whether the ferry might actually prove more reliable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As it turned out, it did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We stopped off at&nbsp;Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet&nbsp;for lunch, a bit of shopping, and a car charge on the way to&nbsp;Liverpool. The ferry left on time, the crossing was a little lumpy thanks to the wind, but we arrived as planned and were in the cottage by 11pm. Somehow I failed to take any real photos whilst on the island, but I did take this one in the ferry terminal, where negotiating a normal flight of stairs seems to have been promoted to an extreme sport!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"803\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alananna.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Stairs-Sign.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-48230\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.alananna.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Stairs-Sign.jpg 803w, https:\/\/www.alananna.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Stairs-Sign-178x200.jpg 178w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 803px) 100vw, 803px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes, both Anna and I never had more than one point of contact, we took more than one step at a time and jumped off the last few! Somehow I think this sign will just encourage people to be silly and will lead to mopr accidents than it prevents!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The next few days settled into an easy rhythm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We\u2019d have breakfast, head down to see Anna\u2019s mum (Pat), then head out for errands, food shopping, or a wander somewhere around the island before lunch. We spent time in&nbsp;Douglas, picked up bits from B&amp;Q, and strolled along the prom in&nbsp;Port Erin. There were a few relaxed stops in shops like Robinson\u2019s, and plenty of just\u2026 slowing down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the afternoons, Anna and I would usually do our own thing. One day we sat overlooking&nbsp;Castletown Bay, watching the wind whip across the water \u2014 the kind of day where, a few years ago, I\u2019d definitely have found an excuse to bring the windsurf kit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We also headed north to visit the island\u2019s gin distillery, then on to a nearby nature reserve in search of the island\u2019s famously unexpected residents \u2014 wild wallabies. No luck this time, but it still felt like part of the adventure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There were stops for tea and cake in&nbsp;Jurby, hot chocolates back in Port Erin, and patches of warm sunshine in between.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Sunday, we drove up to&nbsp;Kirk Michael&nbsp;so I could pick up a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alananna.co.uk\/blog\/2026\/04\/isle-of-man-coast-path-glen-mooar-to-ballaugh\/\">few more miles of the coast path<\/a> \u2014 a small but satisfying continuation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Evenings were simple. Back to Pat\u2019s for dinner, helping out with a few light DIY or gardening jobs, then a wander back to the cottage to wind down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The return crossing couldn\u2019t have been easier \u2014 calm seas, smooth sailing, and a quick journey back before the drive home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You never quite know what you\u2019re going to get with the ferry (we\u2019ve had some rough ones in the past), but this time everything just worked. And when you factor in having your own car and the flexibility it brings, the cost isn\u2019t far off flying and hiring anyway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A short trip, but nice all the same \u2014 a mix of family time, fresh air, and just enough movement to feel like you\u2019ve done something with the days.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We made another quick trip over to the&nbsp;Isle of Man&nbsp;this weekend.
