We haven\u2019t finished harvesting, but from three hives we should end up with around 80 lbs of honey\u2014mostly from two hives, as the third wasn\u2019t really a production hive this season. The weather has clearly been kind to bees, judging by the sheer amount of fruit on the trees and hedgerows as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We don\u2019t aim to maximise production. Instead of taking everything and then feeding them sugar syrup to get them through the winter, we always leave them a full super of their own honey. It just feels like the right thing to do\u2014and surely healthier for the bees too. We\u2019re also fairly hands-off during the season: we check in on them, of course, but mostly let them get on with it. That said, we\u2019ve had a few people asking us to install hives at their houses, so we may have to look at increasing our colonies next year.
