Following a busy start to the weekend<\/a>, we enjoyed a more relaxed Sunday and Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019d been invited to Sophie\u2019s 50th birthday party (she\u2019s the wife of Alan\u2019s friend Dennis\u2014and has therefore been a friend of ours for a while too!). The party was being held at Mwnt, just over an hour down the coast from us, and we\u2019d booked early to secure a bell tent for the night so we could enjoy a bit of glamping as part of the celebration.<\/p>\n\n\n

After a chilled morning, some lunch, and a bit of time relaxing at home, we set off towards Mwnt. It was a lovely sunny day for the drive along the coast\u2014the sea was calm and the spring flowers made everything look fresh and colourful. We arrived in the mid-afternoon to find a strengthening breeze. After saying hello to Dennis and Sophie, catching up a little, and handing over gifts and cards, we added some extra layers as we sat outside in the increasingly chilly northerly wind. It was much colder than it looked, and we soon found ourselves seeking warmth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We were introduced to a couple called Jeff and Jackie from Pembrokeshire and chatted with them over drinks for a while, but eventually it got too cold and we moved indoors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think it\u2019s a sign of age that we sought out a spot away from the draughty doors and found a little heater to sit under. Not only were we layered up, but we had blankets over us wherever we could manage. We also drank much less than we might have in our youth, didn\u2019t dance at all, and gave up on conversation once the music got too loud to hear each other. Yep\u2014middle age has definitely set in!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A highlight of the evening was Sophie\u2019s surprise aerial acrobatics display! A frame had been set up outside, and she climbed a rope, wrapped herself in it, and treated us all to a spectacular performance. Not bad at all for someone celebrating their 50th!<\/p>\n\n\n

The whole event was great fun. We got on well with Jeff and Jackie, ate plenty\u2014the hog roast was delicious, as were the salads and brownies\u2014and enjoyed the live music. I\u2019m less sure about the DJ\u2019s dance tracks that followed, though. Jeff and Jackie made their excuses fairly early as they had to drive home, and we lasted a little longer before retreating to our bell tent\u2014well before those younger at heart called it a night.<\/p>\n\n\n

The bell tent was lovely, with a fairly comfortable double bed, fairy lights, a couple of deck chairs, and a warm duvet. There were tea and coffee-making facilities too. By now it was freezing outside, with the wind still blowing and clear skies bringing the temperature down to around 2\u00baC. It was cosy under the duvet, but any extremities that ventured out were soon icy. Still, we survived the night and waited in the morning sunshine for our breakfast hamper to be delivered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hamper was packed full of goodies\u2014cereals, pastries, fruit, and yoghurts\u2014all of which went down very well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All that remained was to have one last chat with Dennis and Sophie, say our goodbyes, and head home to relax for the rest of the Bank Holiday Monday. A lovely way to celebrate Sophie’s 50th and a little excuse to get Anna camping – even if it was camping on a proper mattress in a tent with mains electricity!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
