{"id":316,"date":"2007-03-23T11:14:41","date_gmt":"2007-03-23T11:14:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/alananna.co.uk\/blog\/2007\/helicopter-ride\/"},"modified":"2007-03-23T11:26:08","modified_gmt":"2007-03-23T11:26:08","slug":"helicopter-ride","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.alananna.co.uk\/blog\/2007\/03\/helicopter-ride\/","title":{"rendered":"Helicopter Ride"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image317\" alt=\"helicopter.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/alananna.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/03\/helicopter.thumbnail.jpg\" \/>As part of a new recruitment drive for prospective students to the Institute of Biological Sciences, University of Wales, Aberystwyth, we are offering visitors a free ride in a helicopter to see the sights of Aberystwyth from the air.\u00a0 They get a six minute ride and their friends and family can pay a small fee to join in as well.<\/p>\n<p>This week was the first visit day with the helicopter and we couldn&#8217;t have asked for better weather, a nice sunny frosty morning with no wind&#8230;&#8230;perfect.\u00a0 There were a few spare places which were offered to staff and not one to turn down an oportunity I decided to have a go.<\/p>\n<p>I had a few concerns: I don&#8217;t like heights and can get travel sick.\u00a0 Also 6 minutes didn&#8217;t seem like a very long time for \u00a315 (yes, it;s only the prospective students who get it ifor free!).\u00a0 Anyway, off we set and after a safety talk from the friendly groundstaff we were all aboard.\u00a0 They placed us in the helicopter by weight so no choice over who had the front seat&#8230;.I&#8217;m glad it wasn&#8217;t me!\u00a0\u00a0 Then we were off, over Morrisons and around the side of Pen Dinas to the sea.\u00a0 Down the coast with lovely views of Borth, the Llyn Peninsular, Ireland with snow on all the hills.\u00a0Up to about 1000ft, travelling at 90 miles an hour apparently,\u00a0a quick wave to Morgan at nursery by the cliff railway before we came back over the campus then to the landing site.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>6 minutes was plenty of time.\u00a0 Not rushed at all and lots to see.\u00a0 I was in the middle seat in the back and didn&#8217;t think I&#8217;d see much but had brilliant views on all sides.\u00a0 Well worth it and a good trip had by all.<\/p>\n<p>I would highly recommend it and hope the students making the trip here think it is worth it.\u00a0 I&#8217;m sure once they have been to Aber there will be no keeping them away, afterall Alan and I came to Aber\u00a0in 1994\/1995\u00a0and we&#8217;re still here and not planning on going anywhere soon!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aber.ac.uk\/biology\/prospective\/intro.html\">http:\/\/www.aber.ac.uk\/biology\/prospective\/intro.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.helicharterwales.com\/index.htm\">http:\/\/www.helicharterwales.com\/index.htm<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As part of a new recruitment drive for prospective students to the Institute of Biological Sciences, University of Wales, Aberystwyth, we are offering visitors a free ride in a helicopter to see the sights of Aberystwyth from the air.\u00a0 They get a six minute ride and their friends and family can pay a small fee&#46;&#46;&#46;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":18612,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_dont_email_post_to_subs":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-316","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 -
