Morgan’s main birthday present this year was a re-decoration of his bedroom. It’s not really surprising that he wanted something like that for his 12th birthday as I’m pretty sure it’s been the same (slightly pinkish) colour since he was born. He’s now a much more independent 12 year old so has his own ideas on how he’d like his bedroom.<\/p>\n

Furniture<\/h2>\n

First up he wanted a triple bed. That’s a bunk bed with a double bed at the bottom and a single up top. With that decided upon we had a trip to Bristol so as to visit IKEA<\/a> and choose a whole load of new bedroom furniture to go with the bed. New wardrobes (he’s never had a wardrobe before), new book shelves, drawers for storage, a desk, a chair and some storage shelves. This was along with some accessories such as a cool lampshade.<\/p>\n

Colours<\/h2>\n

We had already picked a couple of colours for the bedroom walls. A couple of shades of a nice greyish blue from a range aptly called ‘Pebble Drift’. A suitable carpet was ordered to in a colour called granite. So the scene was set, time for me to get to work.<\/p>\n

Preparation<\/h2>\n

The first job was to clear out his bedroom. There was so much stuff in there that this took quite a while – a few weekends to be precise. We tired to be ruthless and throw lots of things out, but it\u00a0didn’t really work that well. The plan is for a second round of ruthless pruning as we pout things back in as well.<\/p>\n

With the rest of the house now full of boxes containing Morgan’s belongings it was now time to dismantle the furniture. Kia (my niece) wanted the furniture for her new house and her young sons bedroom. We therefore tried our best to take a few photos of how it should look as we took it apart. We also made sure to keep all of the screws and such like for each item together with its various components. Even so, I think it’ll be quite a puzzle for them to get it all back\u00a0together without the proper instructions!<\/p>\n\n\t\t
