Tuesday was an absolute scorcher here. It started off hot and just got hotter with the temperatures eventually maxing out at 32.8\u00baC. The hottest day so far in 2016 and not far off our ‘all-time’ record of 33.7\u00baC set on 19th July 2016<\/a>. \u00a0Typically, I had lots of hot work planned for the day, finishing off the lean-to build that we’ve been working on. I had to wait for 2 tonnes of gravel to arrive so had chance to clean the house, do lots of gardening and then make a hot and sweaty inspection of the bees.<\/a><\/p>\n

The gravel arrived while I was inspecting the bees, so suitably hot and sweaty I was able to start the real work of the day – manually shifting 2 tonnes of gravel. The first task was to lay a nice weed-control carpet. Even this was hot work\u00a0in the sweltering heat under the roof of the lean-to.<\/p>\n

Next was shovelling the gravel into a wheelbarrow and moving it to the lean-to, tipping it out and raking it over. It certainly looked neat and tidy once I’d finished though. It almost seems a shame to fill it up.<\/p>\n

I then played around with the drainpipes and water-butts so that they were finished off.<\/p>\n

Next I\u00a0started filling it up by returning the Surf Ski and putting the canoe under it. I did do a bit of restoration on the surf-ski as well as it had been out in the elements for a few years and needed some TLC. It looks nice now though and the lean-to proved a nice workshop space to work on it.<\/p>\n

The new lean-to also means that I now have some room in my shed again so will be able to do some much needed work on my bikes too. All in all it should prove to be a very useful storage space and certainly looks a lot nicer than it did when we started.<\/p>\n
