{"id":20010,"date":"2015-08-19T08:02:48","date_gmt":"2015-08-19T07:02:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.alananna.co.uk\/blog\/?p=20010"},"modified":"2015-08-16T08:03:11","modified_gmt":"2015-08-16T07:03:11","slug":"geocaching-road-trip-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.alananna.co.uk\/blog\/2015\/08\/geocaching-road-trip-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"Geocaching Road Trip 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hooray, we completed our 2015 Geocaching Road Trip yesterday and earned ourselves the bonus &#8216;Road Trip Hero&#8217; souvenir.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_20011\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.alananna.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Road-Trip-Hero.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-20011\" class=\"size-full wp-image-20011\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alananna.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Road-Trip-Hero.jpg\" alt=\"Road Trip Hero\" width=\"480\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.alananna.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Road-Trip-Hero.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.alananna.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Road-Trip-Hero-200x133.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-20011\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Road Trip Hero<\/p><\/div>\n<p>As usual, this little challenge took us to some nice places and some fun times.<\/p>\n<p>As a recap, the 2015\u00a0Geocaching Road Trip ran between June 19th and September 2nd during which time we had to find five souvenirs to unlock a special sixth souvenir.\u00a0The individual missions in our Road Trip were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>June 19 &#8211; Sept 2<\/b><strong>:\u00a0<\/strong>Find a geocache with 10 or more Favourite Points<\/li>\n<li><b>July 3 &#8211; Sept 2<\/b><strong>:\u00a0<\/strong>Attend an Event, Mega-Event or Giga-Event<\/li>\n<li><b>July 17 &#8211; Sept 2<\/b><strong>:\u00a0<\/strong>Find a T5 <b>or<\/b> D5 geocache<\/li>\n<li><b>July 31 &#8211; Sept 2<\/b><strong>:\u00a0<\/strong>Find an EarthCache <strong>or<\/strong> attend a CITO<\/li>\n<li><b>August 14 &#8211; Sept 2<\/b><strong>:\u00a0<\/strong>Find a Mystery Cache<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We started with the &#8216;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.alananna.co.uk\/blog\/2015\/geocaching-summer-road-trip-fun-with-favourites-souvenir\/\">Fun with Favourites<\/a><\/strong>&#8216; challenge right after it was live and found a local cache called \u00a0&#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.geocaching.com\/geocache\/GC397BB_sleeper-train\">Sleeper Train<\/a>&#8216; with more than 10 favourite points.<\/p>\n<p>Our Earthcache and &#8216;<strong>High 5 for the Earth<\/strong>&#8216; Souvenir was called &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.geocaching.com\/seek\/cache_details.aspx?wp=GC1EA1A\">Gorgeous<\/a>&#8216;\u00a0overlooking the Avon Gorge from the Suspension Bridge in Bristol &#8211; somewhere that I know well but it&#8217;s always nice to take Anna and Morgan.<\/p>\n<p>Morgan and I had a nice <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alananna.co.uk\/blog\/2015\/more-geocaching-records-in-aberaeron-and-aberarth\/\">day out in Aberaeron and Aberarth<\/a> where we found a T5 or D5 cache. It was a T5 cache called &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.geocaching.com\/geocache\/GC5X40E_wooden-you-go-there\">Wooden you Go There<\/a>&#8216;. I&#8217;m not sure if it really deserves the T5 rating but it earned us our &#8216;<strong>Let&#8217;s Get Extreme<\/strong>&#8216; souvenir nonetheless.<\/p>\n<p>We attended a nice laid back event called &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.geocaching.com\/geocache\/GC5B4RB_at-tent-tion?guid=467431ca-9035-4ed3-8eab-b453237a25b1\">A-tent-tion<\/a>&#8216; last Friday to earn us our &#8216;<strong>Meet the Road Trip Crew<\/strong>&#8216; souvenir.<\/p>\n<p>Then on Saturday we stopped off en route to a 10th wedding anniversary party at a nice little church just outside of Devil&#8217;s Bridge to find the Mystery cache called &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.geocaching.com\/geocache\/GC4R7WK_welsh-remote-churches-ysbyty-cynfyn?guid=63e4f576-8042-4d8a-a84f-6a7c127d33bf\">Welsh Remote Churches &#8211; Ysbyty Cynfyn<\/a>&#8216;. We&#8217;d been here before for walks around Parsons Bridge and Bryn Bras, but had never explored the churchyard nor had we heard the sad story of\u00a0the grave of the first recorded birth of quadruplets, born at Nantysyddion, who all died of Typhoid Fever in their first month of infancy in 1856. A year of much sadness and bereavement for the Hughes family when you read the graves next to them and see that their brother Hugh and sister Hannah also died along with their Father all in the same month!
