With Anna away for work on the Isle of Man, it was left to me to run Scouts on my own this week. Thankfully it was an easy session as we were taking them to the woods just outside Llanfarian for a woodland crafts evening with Tir Coed. This meant that there were a couple of adults from Tir Coed running the activities, so I wasn’t alone. This was helped by the fact that Cira the Cub and Beaver leader stayed on to help as well, and the Dad of a new member stayed too.<\/p>\n

Tir Coed <\/a>\u00a0is\u00a0a charity\u00a0that works to improve the quality of life for rural communities in Wales through trees and woodlands in order to sustain and enhance their social, economic, ecological and cultural value for the future. Morgan and I arrived about an hour early so helped out with the Cubs and Beavers before meeting the Scouts and leading them up to the clearing in the woods where Tir Coed have built a shelter and a nice big table for working on woodland crafts. The task this evening was to build a key holder for Father’s Day so the Scouts soon set about whittling and drilling bit of wood that they gathered from the woodland around them.<\/p>\n

We also lit a fire and toasted marshmallows and popped popcorn on it. It was a nice still evening and thankfully the midges weren’t biting. We also had plenty of time to work on the crafts and therefore had a fairly chilled, relaxed evening without having to rush. There were quite a few Scouts missing though which was a shame as these outdoor activities are what it’s all about and always good fun.<\/p>\n\n\t\t
