I’ve just got back from a quick early morning windsurf session in the estuary super-chop at Ynyslas thanks to Ivor, our katabtic wind<\/a> who was in full force this morning. Nothing too unusual\u00a0there really expect for the fact that I\u00a0haven’t been windsurfing much lately. There used to be a time that I’d be up at 4am and on the water by 4:30am anytime that Ivor was in action and he’d often be blowing every day for a week or two during the Spring. I’ve just been too busy with other things of late though.<\/p>\n

What is unusual is that as with things in the garden, the terrible Spring that we had seems to have set everything back by a month, and I sure that includes the katabatic wind as well. I’m sure it is usually at its best in June, but it has been howling down through the estuary now for a couple of weeks despite the fact that it is the middle of July. I’m not complaining of course as it was lovely out there today with air temperatures up around 17\u00b0C and water temperatures about the same. That may not sound very warm, but it is for around here and such a treat to not feel cold when in the water even with only a thin wetsuit on.<\/p>\n

I\u00a0was the only one out there so had the estuary to myself and as the water filled in I was able to blast over the tops of the sandbanks and across the main channel to Aberdovey. There wasn’t quite so much wind over there though so I didn’t stay too long as I didn’t want to get stuck there underpowered with only a small wave board and 4.5m sail.<\/p>\n
