We’ve just hit day 10 of our consecutive days geocaching streak… So I thought I’d upload a new version of our stats seeing as we’ve been so prolific over the past few days.<\/p>\n
There are two versions of the stats both of which show our caching endeavours up to today. Click here for version 1 of our geocaching stats<\/a> and here for version two of our geocaching stats<\/a>.<\/p>\n I think the streak will continue for a few more days whilst Morgan is on holiday from school but it can’t go one forever! We are also beginning to run out of easy local caches and are now being forced a little further from home to find new ones. Today’s caches weren’t too far away though and they were all pretty easy finds along the roadside near Bont Goch. <\/p>\n We did have a little adventure at one of them though. Morgan wanted to get as close as possible to the cache in the car and so after driving past ‘Ground Zero’ I stopped in the car and started reversing back into a driveway that led to a gate across the entrance to the woodland where the cache was located. I didn’t look before reversing though and so didn’t see that there was a 3 foot deep and 3 foot wide gully across the entrance to the drive. In went the back wheel and up off the ground went the two offside wheels. Ooops, that wasn’t meant to happen and with only two wheels fully on the ground and one of those in thick mud I wasn’t going anywhere.<\/p>\n Luckily, just as it happened a friend of mine from the Moth Recording Group who lives just down the road happened to be passing. I’m terrible with names and called him Tony, but I now think his name is probably Evan – I wasn’t even close!. It was clear that I wasn’t going to get out of this alone so I foraged for some long branches that had fallen off trees in the woodland, jammed them under the rear wheel that was currently a good 4 inches off the ground, got an even longer one for Evan and wedged that under the wheel too and asked him to try his best to hold it in place whilst I drove up it!<\/p>\n I put the ‘geocaching truck’ into 4WD, and with a little bit of trial and error as far as the positioning of the branches go and my angle of attack we soon drove out of the ditch and were able to continue on our merry way. I did of course fail in my photographic duties and forgot to take a photo of the car whilst in this predicament. Morgan did suggest doing it all over again just to get a photo, but I didn’t think that would be a good idea!<\/p>\n The caches themselves were easy to find and we had a nice walk around the woodland. We even saw some Dippers flitting from rock to rock and dipping in their characteristic way in the Cwmere River, so the little incident was worth the while. Besides it’s always satisfying getting yourself out of a little scrape in an inventive way. We then headed into Aberystwyth for some shopping and an ice cream.<\/p>\n\n\t\t
