Although geocaching.com is our geocaching website of choice, there are some alternatives. Opencaching run by Garmin is one of them. Although run by Garmin it touts itself as being free and open and powered by users saying that they are\u00a0a collection of\u00a0hikers, bikers, techno\u00a0geeks, treasure-seekers, scouts,\u00a0families\u00a0and just plain\u00a0nature\u00a0lovers who deserve to geocache the way we want. Which is apparently why they created the site\u00a0– to put the power back in the hands of the community. And to finally give us all a voice in the way geocaching grows.<\/p>\n
That’s obviously a direct hit at geocaching.com which is a freemium model meaning that you can access most of the\u00a0information\u00a0for free but if you really want to use it properly then you need to pay a subscription. The Open Caching site itself looks good and there are some really nice features. I Did add a few of the caches that we’ve hidden to it, but \u00a0there are very few other caches in the area on Open-Caching so we have never really used it.<\/p>\n
Someone did find and log our Watery Wales caches on it the other day though so I\u00a0received e-mail notification of the fact and one of the caches had a nice comment:<\/p>\n
