Just an update on the floods in Borth<\/a>. The sun is now shining and at this end of the village it is now a lovely day. If you drive along the main road through Borth you wouldn’t even know it had been raining, but rain it has.<\/p>\n

The Borth Weather Station<\/a> recorded 42.2mm of rain yesterday and another 13mm this morning giving us over 2 inches of rain which led to some substantial flooding. There was a major rescue operation in Borth and Dolybont with the RAF Sea King Helicopter, the RNLI and the coast guard involved along with numerous fire frews, amubulances and police. As the tide rose later in the day other areas of Borth itself flooded and roads all over the region have been closed.<\/p>\n

Parts of Aberystwyth are underwater, especially around Parc y Llyn. This area is of course a flood plain so a fairly silly place to build, but you have to feel for the people who have had homes and belongings destroyed by the flood waters. Talybont is flooded and the roads through Machynlleth are flooded as well. Penrhyncoch has been virtually cut off by the floods. I’m sure there are plenty of\u00a0other places flooded as well, and it is a little strange for Borth and Dolybont to be headline news on all the channels.<\/p>\n

Thanks for all the phone-calls, Tweets, e-mails and Facebook messages asking if we are OK. So far we haven’t been affected – other than the fact that none of our guests will be able to get to the BBQ we had planned for this afternoon. In fact as we escaped so far unscathed we decided to bake some cakes for those who hadn’t. We dropped them off at the Lifeboat Station earlier where the rescue operations are being co-ordinated from. It’s not much help for those who had homes wrecked, but it was the least we could do.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
