After an\u00a0epic family weekend away camping<\/a>\u00a0at the\u00a0CRC MTB Marathon in Marshbrook<\/a>\u00a0last year we thought we’d do it again this year.<\/p>\n

The CRC MTB Marathons and Road Sportives provide a really good atmosphere, loads of people all into bikes camping in a big field and then riding lots. It ends up like a mini-festival but everyone is quiet and asleep by 10pm so there’s none of the downsides due to drunken lads, loud music and lack of sleep etc.<\/p>\n

We had a really good weekend last year. We made the most of the free camping arrived on the Friday night and stayed until Monday. There’s always lots going on with various stalls and such like, skills courses, free food and drinks at certain times and of course some top class riding, either in the MTB Marathon or the Road Sportive that they put on.<\/p>\n

You can choose from a variety of distances fo each of the rides – usually around 30km, 50km or 80km on the MTB and either 50 or 100 miles on the road bike – or you can do both if you like.<\/p>\n

We went to the Marshbrook one last year but can’t make it this year but luckily there’s a new event in Abergavenny. I’ve signed up to do the MTB ride on the Saturday and the Road Sportive on the Sunday (but will decided which distance closer to the time). Jay has signed up too and hopefully I’ll get a few more people interested soon so that there’s a nice little group of us having a pleasant weekend away in the Welsh Hills.<\/p>\n
