Many thanks for this post.

I am struggling to locate the setting to allow charge from grid.

I have the following:

X1 BOOST G4

X1 HYBRID G4

Can someone please tell me where the setting is to allow me to do this?

Many thanks

Hello,

My inverter, X3-IES lacks the execution of any form of automation (in the Intelligence tab of the app). Everytime an automation trigger occurs (i.e. low or high peakprices, or a self made automation rule on time) nothing happens. In the execution log howevere it says "Overridden by high priority task (Automation scenarios). However, there are no other (visible) automation tasks running.

Sounds familiar to anyone? Any idea what to do to resolve this?

Thx in advance

Thanks for you kind comments. It’s really nice to know that these things are useful. It might even motivate me to write a new post related to the latest app to take into account the changes/updates.

Thanks,

Thanks so much for this guide and for saving my sanity! Our system is recently installed and even the installers don’t really understand how to set it up. It’s so complicated and really difficult for a non tech oldie with a shrinking brain to understand! But even though our app is newer and different (because they have to keep changing things don’t they) with your guide I managed to work out how to set the force charge and discharge times to utilise cheap rates. Thank you.

I think the problem is that Solax does not seem to have an API that allows you to make changes to the setup.
My guess is that this will eventually come, but may be a premium service they offer.

Hi Bill, & Nick, This would be a good thing to do. I haven’t done so myself yet and haven't even dabbled with Home Assistant Yet, but keep meaning to do so… Another thing to add to my ‘retirement to-do list’!

Although, I’m assuming that in years to come such things would be built into solar/battery systems but so far the software side of things from the manufacturers does seem to be lacking. It seems that Artificial Intelligence is being used to create deep fakes and other such nonsense when it would be much better if the people using it for such things would use their talents to improve things (including our solar panel and battery storage set-ups)!! ?

HI Nick,
Have you extended this setup to the point that the future forecast automatically adjusts the charge times or max SOC percentage?

In reply to <a href="https://www.alananna.co.uk/blog/2022/06/force-charging-with-a-solax-inverter-and-battery/#comment-65039">Stepto</a>.

I know that some people only charge cars and batteries to 80%, but my understanding is that if they are used regularly, it isn’t that bad for them. Manufacturers build in safety buffers, so they never actually charge to the absolute maximum. As far as I know, it’s only harmful if they remain at 100% for long periods.

With our car, the battery will likely outlast the vehicle itself, so we just charge to 100%. Since it gets used straight away, it doesn’t sit at maximum charge for long. I’m happy to rely on the battery management systems built into modern batteries and cars.

Our Solax battery at home is also force-charged to 100% overnight in winter (on a cheap rate) and charged to full during the day when the sun is out. Again, the stored energy is used immediately, so it never remains at 100% for long. Ideally, we’d have more battery storage, but given the limited capacity, we’d rather maximize its use than restrict it unnecessarily. I don’t think this will cause significant degradation or shorten its lifespan too much. It will last long enough to pay for itself, and by the time it needs replacing, battery technology will have improved—so it will be an upgrade. Essentially, I’d rather make full use of it now while we can.

The only battery I don’t charge to 100% is my laptop because it’s plugged in on my desk 99% of the time, meaning it would stay fully charged indefinitely. Instead, I keep it at 75% and only top it up to 100% when I need to take it somewhere.
