Surf Ski Contrasts

Yesterday’s surf ski was almost like summer. Calm waters, sunny skies and a nice paddle into the estuary, up past Aberdyfi and then back again. Despite th fact that it was a post-work evening session, it was warm enough for shorts and ”T’-shirt for the first time this year. It looked as though summer was on its way.

A Completely Different Beast

Today’s session was a completely different beast though and in some ways it was back to business as usual for April in Wales. No shorts and ‘T’-shirt today, it was back on with the 3/2mm wetsuit and a helmet.

4pm in the afternoon and the temperature was only 4ÂșC. The skies looked ominous, the sea was moody and the wind was blowing. Then, after struggling down the beach against the wind it was winter again once I got on the water. Hailstorms, thunder, lightning, 30 knot winds and challenging seas.

I’m not sure which I preferred!
