An Altogether Better Day

I’m pleased to report that Sunday went a little better than Saturday did.

Running through the Bluebells

It started with a nice trail run around Penglais Woods in the early morning sunshine. The ground beneath the trees was awash with Bluebells and the birds were singing in the trees. I put in a half decent effort for one loop around the Golf Course as well and was rewarded with a new PB for the segment and the Strava Course Record.

This was followed by a second loop and then some 30 seconds intervals dodging dog-walkers backwards and forwards through the woods.

Swim Time Trial

Next it was into the pool for a swim. A nice easy warm up, followed by a 2,000yd time trial at race pace. I knocked that out in a half decent 28:09 so was pleased with that. After a cool down it was time to sweat it off in the sauna before heading home.

Out on the Sea

It was now high-tide so I checked out the repairs to my surf ski which seemed to have set well and then headed across to the beach. My plan had been to paddle to Aberdyfi and then up the estuary a little before returning with the tide to assist me. It was a lot windier than forecast once I was on the water though. Ivor, our local katabatic wind had kicked in and was blowing at 30 knots plus. I made my way towards the mouth of the estuary but decided not to risk the estuary crossing in such strong offshore winds so just headed back and did a shorter paddle up and down the beach, staying close to shore.

It was a good opportunity to try out my new top though which was very comfortable. I think it’ll be a little too warm in the summer but should be ideal for Spring and Autumn and to wear over the top of a wetsuit in the winter.

It was nice not to be wearing a wetsuit too. Carrying my ski back across the golf course with the wind howling wasn’t the easiest, but it was certainly easier than getting it onto and off the roofrack in such conditions.

The afternoon was spent chilling, giving my ski a bit of a polish and doing some work on the fishtank. I managed to get out in the garden for a little while too.

Fairly successful all round I’d say.
