The Best of Places

This part of the world really is the best of places to be when the sun is shining.

Surf Ski

Saturing started with a lovely surf ski paddle from Ynyslas, into Borth, on towards Wallog and back. A deserted beach, a calm sea, a rising sun and the best of places.

I kept up a good pace as well. Just over 6mph over a distance of almost 9 miles. Perfect practice for the Colwyn Bay Blast.

Bwlch y Geufford

A few chores at home washing the van and the car and then Anna and I headed off to visit a quirky little garden called Bwlch y Geuffordd not far from Bronant. It was a bit of a drive with a stop at the shops for picnic supplies. The drive then ended with half a mile or so along a bumpy track. Eventually we came to a small house in the middle of nowhere. It was hiding a pretty impressive garden.

Reclaimed from boggy welsh upland it has been quite a challenge to create a garden here. The owners have risen to the challenge though and now have a series of large ponds connected by small streams and waterfalls. They are all criss-crossed by a series of paths and bridges that lead to the various parts of the garden. There are bog gardens, Mediterranean gardens, a new Japanese garden, less formal woodland gardens and sculptures, follies and benches everywhere. It’s not huge but it’s worth a visit. We sat in the sun, ate our picnic and watched the world go by.

CX Bike Ride

Back at home, after another stop for cooking supplies, I headed out for a bike ride in the sunshine. I was feeling quite good on the way out so decided to take on the ‘Beast of Tre Ddol’ climb. I wasn’t feeling quite so good by the time I made it to the top. I did get a PB up it though, knocking almost 3 minutes off my previous time.

I then headed off towards Artists Valley for a quick loop around some forest trails in the sunshine. Nothing too big or burly today just a nice ride on a sunny afternoon.

Dolphins and Dinner – The Best of Places

As evening came around Morgan and I wandered over to the beach where we watched a small family of dolpins swim by. What a place, miles of sand and sea and dolphins too right on our doorstep. The best of places indeed. It was then time for dinner in the garden whilst burning the remains of a wooden chair in the chiminea. It might be the best of places here but I have to admit there aren’t usually that many evenings where you can comfortably sit outside in the evening in shorts and ‘T’-shirt but Saturday was one of them. Lovely.
