Father’s Day without Mum

With Anna away I presume there was some frantic planning to make sure Father’s Day was sorted before she left. I’m sure there were some text messages to remind Morgan as well, or maybe I should give him more credit!

However it happened, there was a card along with chocolates and beer presented to me once Morgan was up and out of his bed. I then headed off to the estuary for a surf ski paddle leaving Morgan alone to do his own thing on his XBox. Once I was back we headed off to the Cletwr Café for brunch. Feeling a little low on cash and not really needing a full breakfast I went for the much cheaper welsh rarebit and a cup of tea while Morgan asked for a toasted teacake and hot chocolate. They were out of toasted teacakes so Morgan’s treat was down-graded to toast. I did however discover that as I was a Father and it was Father’s Day that mine was free. I should have ordered the full breakfast after all.

It was pretty busy in there today – no doubt lots of Dad’s after free food – so we shared a table with an old lady from Talybont.

We did a little bit of shopping so that we could have Fajitas for dinner and then headed home.

I then jumped on the turbo trainer for 45 minutes and headed out for a little run with a few race pace intervals thrown in for good measure. My foot and achilles seemed to be OK. My achilles was a little sore afterwards but nothing to worry about. I’ll have to start running properly again soon but will build it up slowly.

It was a pretty grey, miserable day really and feeling quite chilly in comparison to recent days. The wind looked as though it was going to pick up, only to drop off again and the drizzle looked set to stay. I would have liked to have gone windsurfing again but didn’t really fancy it in such gusty, rubbishy conditions. Instead Morgan and I headed into Borth where we found two new geocaches and fired up the Pokémon Go app for the first time in ages. We managed to avoid the wrost of the drizzle. I got stung on the forehead by stinging nettles whilst retrieving a cache. We battled a few gyms, caught some new Pokémon and then headed up to the Visitor Centre at Ynyslas to get that gym too.

The wind had dropped off completely by now so it was the right choice. Time to start on my beer and chocolates and then to make some yummy Fajitas followed by Ben & Jerry’s Peanut Butter Cup ice cream and more chocolates. Typically the wind filled in properly later in the evening but by then it was just too late. Not a bad Father’s Day, and Anna will be home tomorrow as well.

Hope all the Dad’s had a good one – back to our usual life of chores and jobs now with no Father’s Day bargaining to get out of them.
