Christmas Eve Surf Ski with Mark and Owain

It feels like ages since I’ve been out on my ski or done any exercise of any kind. All due to some sort of man-flu lurgy. It might feel like ages but it’s actually only been a week – that’s more than enough time off for me. So, when I saw a little bit of swell and light offshores forecast for Christmas Eve I thought I’d invite some surf skiers along.

Christmas Eve -Eve was therefore a quiet day. Anna and I did pop out for brunch at Cletwr but it was a wet miserable day so other than walk over to the beach a few times we didn’t do much else.

There were occasional ‘Golfers in the Mist’, but not much else happening.

We did have a lovely Spicery Dinner though and the wind eased off enough for Sprout to come out!

Christmas Eve Surf Ski

Thankfully the charts were correct and we were greeted with a nice 1-2 foot mellow swell this morning held up by light offshore winds. Most people were understandably busy as it was Christmas Eve, but Mark and Owain drove from the borders to enjoy the offerings of Ynyslas. I baked some cakes while they were on their way. Lovely sticky mince pie pinwheels.

We were soon on the water and having a good time in the waves. Owain struggled a bit having never been in waves before. Mark was loving it, being tested a little by the conditions and catching some good waves. It was nice and mellow for me with small waves gently peeling into the beach.

Mark ended up having a bit of a swim. He did give it another go afterwards but decided that maybe that wasn’t such a good idea as he was stilled a little disorientated from the swim. I packed up with them and we headed back to the house for showers and hot drinks.

It’s nice to share the waves with someone else for a change, and Christmas is all about giving after all!

Time now to get ready for Santa to arrive!
