This worked!!! 01/01/23 My Fenix 3 was working, as usual, with no issues, when I noticed I was down to 11% battery and thought I should charge it. Nothing happened. Puzzled, I cleaned the pins on both the watch and the charger to no avail. I tried plugging it into the pc, but nothing, no connection. It was odd so I thought maybe, just maybe, it was the charger so I ordered a new one…a knock-off because I could find a Garmin one. A new charger arrives, the watch is fully dead now, and when I plug it in, nothing happens. Nada! Zilch! So very strange because I haven’t had any issues with noticeably lessened battery life or issues with performance or function so why would a working watch brick?!?
I google again and stumbled upon this solution and lo and behold, I take my watch, soap it up and use a nail brush to clean it thoroughly. I dry it, attach it to the charger and *&$@ the Garmin logo appears!!! I didn’t have any performance issues, the buttons weren’t sticking, the battery was typical. Thank goodness for this save!! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

hi. Sadly I have a very different outcome. the watch battery started to behave very different a couple of months ago, each charge lasting less. once upon a time… a full charge used to last a month (just as a watch, no activities)… and suddenly, everything changed. just right after Fenix6 launched. “it is a curious thing that I started to have battery problems just after the sun-charged-very-much-expensive new model was released. and of course, after a couple of software updates. one day, just did not work anymore. not even turning on. I called garmin support service and they told me to call to my country support service because they would give me more options (????? I suppose this mean afenix3 works differently in the US??????)

Excellent, I don’t know why Garmin Support still aren’t suggesting this as a first step in trouble-shooting. It’s such an easy win if it works and I’m sure it would save them lots of returns as well.

HI. for one week I couldn’t start the watch. did everything what sugested Garmin support, nothing helped. Few minutes ago I have read yours post, I put the watch in to hot soap watter, brushed it and wolia IT UTRNED ON ! 😀 THanks a lot!!

In reply to Anonymous. Have you tried contacting Garmin? They are usually quite helpful. Eventually I did have to buy a new watch but did get a decent price on a replacement from Garmin.
