Campervan XScape

After a day in Brigg at the Brigg Bomber Quadrathlon, we headed back to our quiet little campsite and chilled in the sunshine. My legs weren’t working properly thanks to the efforts earlier in the day but I was able to head off into Burton upon Stanton with Morgan in search of a geocache. The sun was shining, there was no wind and the temperature was beginning to rise. My legs eased up a little as we walked through rural Lincolnshire, somewhere we hadn’t been before. The village was quiet but we were unable to find the cache so headed back to the camper for a stroll around the lake.

We decided to treat ourselves to a Chinese Takeaway in the evening so Anna and I walked back into Burton Upon Stather to order a meal. It turned out to be a little disappointing. The first bag of prawn crackers were stale and the various dishes we had ordered all tasted fairly similar and a little bland really. Not quite what we were expecting but certainly an easy dinner.

The weather looked terrible for the following day as well so we made some plans. If it was nice we would go to the Water’s Edge Centre – a nearby nature reserve overlooking the Humber Bridge with free entry and lots to do. If it were as bad as forecast then there was a place in Castleford called Xscape that had a trampoline park, a Cineworld, an indoor ski slope, crazy golf and much more.

XScape

Monday turned out to be wet, very wet. So, after breakfast we headed off towards Castleford and the Xscape centre. The rain was lashing the windscreen as we drove along one Motorway after another playing eye-spy and making fun of each other. It continued to pour as we joined the queues of traffic heading towards XScape and the adjacent factory outlet shopping centre. We avoided the factory outlets and headed straight to Xscape. We spent a bit of time deciding what we wanted to do and what we could afford. We decided that we weren’t suitably attired for skiing, the climbimg and high ropes looked good but weren’t for Anna or Morgan and the trampoline park looked a little small in comparison to Air Hop – besides after my race yesterday I wasn’t sure of my legs were up to trampolining. Crazy Golf and a trip to the cinema were the choices remaining, but first it was time for a lovely pizza lunch in Bella Italia.

We then headed off for a round of Crazy Golf. Always fun and something we can all do together. Anna managed to well and truly beat us today.

We then wandered around a few shops had a coffee and cake and then headed off to the cinema to see Guardians of the Galaxy 2. It was a good film but so hot in the cinema that I just felt claustrophobic the whole way through and quite sick too.

With a day in the Big City (at least that’s what it felt like to us) done and dusted, we returned to the peace and solitude of our campsite for another night in the camper complete with noodles of the pot variety for dinner.

Not our usual day out but still some nice family entertainment even if it did cost quite a bit. Anna finished a book so I exchanged it with one in the Fisherman’s Lodge and started reading a book called Snow Geese about one man’s journey across North America, Canada and into Baffin Island following the migration of Snow Geese. A perfect read whilst surrounded by the brid-song of Acorn Wood.
