Falling off a Surf Ski

Just how many ways can we fall off a surf ski? More ways than there are to stay on one it would seem.

The weather has been gorgeous though so despite my chest issues I couldn’t resist getting out on the water for a while. Especially as Morgan wanted to be in the sea as well. This meant that I had to go to the beach to keep an eye on him so I took my new surf ski along with me. My chest wasn’t helping things as it hurts getting in and out of the surf ski and paddling probably hurts it a little too. Carrying the ski and man-handling it from the roof rack isn’t exactly helpful either. It was all good fun once on the water though.

Despite appearances from the video I did manage to paddle around the bay a little and started feeling a little more comfortable in it after a while. I don’t think I’m quite ready to race it yet – more practice is needed first. I’m also not really able to work on my paddling technique in it as I’m concentrating too much on staying upright but that will come. This means that even when I’m on it and paddling I don’t think it is any faster than my old ski yet simply because I’m not quite stable enough to put any effort into the paddling. Although saying that when I’m up and going it is probably equally as fast without actually putting any effort into it. My current chest issues also prevent me from putting any real effort behind it. So, hopefully with some more practice, so more stability in it and no chest pains I’ll soon be flying along.

I’m sure flat water will help as well. Although the sea was fairly calm there is still some swell, some chop and a bit of water movement to add to the challenge.
