Summer Sea Birds

After a few weeks of fairly miserable weather, and a horrible bike ride on Sunday morning in constant rain and murk, the weather took a turn for the better yesterday. An amazing contrast from cold, grey and wet to glorious sunshine and scorching temperatures. It reached 24.3ºC yesterday according to the Borth & Ynyslas Weather Station and looks set to get hotter today. Maybe breaking the years best so far of 26.3ºC set on June 6th. It’s pretty warm out there already at 17.7ºC which meant that I had a lovely early morning walk along the beach in the sunshine. I was accompanied only by the usual summer sea birds heading North.

They do this most sunny morning. Huge flocks of Manx Shearwaters, gulls and gannets all flying just above the water and heading north in a constant stream. The real numbers involved only become apparent when you are out amongst them whilst swimming or SUPing. You are then surrounded by them as they all whizz past. I wonder where they are all going?
