Hive Life

Hive Life…. Spring must be on it’s way at last, and beekeeping once again seems to be on the agenda. We were all supposed to be giving a lecture to the beekeepers beginners course last night, but I’ve been suffering with the most viscous of lurgies and despite my best efforts, there was no way I was going to be able to do it. Morgan wasn’t quite himself either so that meant that Anna had to do it all on her own. I felt pretty guilty not being able to help out, especially as Anna had already done all of the preparation for it, but it seemed to go well for her and she didn’t seem too annoyed that we weren’t there to help out.

I’m still suffering more than you can imagine, but thanks to a carefully choreographed regime of night nurse, day nurse and ibruprofen I have finally managed to get out of bad and make it to the office. I even decided that a very gentle shuffle to the bottom of the garden for some fresh air would be a good thing. Whilst there I was pleased to see that the bees were busy for the first time this year. It’s definitely time to take the mouse guard off and probably start feeding them with some spring syrup, but I didn’t have the energy for that so instead just took a  quick video clip of the hive life.

Hive Life

It’s good to see the hive active as I was beginning to worry about the bees as I hadn’t seen any activity from them until today. The approach of Spring and the waking of the bees does mean that there’s lots of work to do though, both in and on the hives and in the garden. I’m not quite sure when we’ll fit it all in.

Wow, the bees really are busy. Looks like a really strong colony. Get well soon.
